A Writing Journey; To Those Who

One of the ways that I have always processed massively emotional or important or life-changing moments in my life is by writing about them. This particular poem is one of those.
I wrote it during and after visiting Mauthausen Concentration Camp. I spent most of my time walking around the camp crying while taking in the horrors that had happened there. Not just there but throughout World War 2 and the Holocaust.

Even though I wrote it while at this particular place it isn’t just about that one dark period in human history, but about all of them and those that still happen every day today.
There is so much that I could say about it. I suggest heading over to my YouTube Channel and watching the video myself, and a few friends have made about Mauthausen.
For now, here is the poem;
To Those Who
To those who,
Have been taken,
Through injustice,
Or in hate.
I give you my heart,
And offer you my hand.
My tears fall freely,
But I will never shed enough,
To grow the flowers,
For you who have been taken.
I pray that you,
Are in a place of love,
Where Hope is the winds
And faith is the sea.
Where freedom is the grass
And life is the trees.
To those who,
Still are here,
Do not forget,
That which has been.
Let your heartbreak,
Your head be bowed,
And your tears be free.
For they will,
always be, remembered
And it will,
Never be, repeated.
